The Wrong Label

Ages 12-15

Mirel ties a red yarn band around the class supply box.

The knot sits loose against the handle. She pulls it tighter and sets the box beneath the red group's table.

At the next table, Bracha opens another box.

"These are theirs."

She holds up a stack of red paper shapes.

Mirel opens her box. Inside are the blue group's rulers.

She takes it by its handle.

"I'll move the band."

Bracha closes the other box. The girls at her table wait.

Mirel brings over the first box. She sets both side by side and reaches for the red knot.

It tightens when she pulls the wrong end.

Mirel puts her box down.

She works her nail beneath the knot. The loose end slides out. She unwinds the yarn from the handle.

Mirel opens each lid. Rulers on the left. Paper shapes on the right.

She ties the red band around the right-hand box.

Bracha takes the rulers to her group.

Mirel carries the paper shapes back. A short red end sticks out beside the knot where she untwists it.
