The Tunnel End

Ages 6-9

Tzipi makes a place for the class guinea pig beside her chair.

A shallow tray holds fresh paper lining. The guinea pig stays in its pen.

Her friend sits on the other side.

The guinea pig walks toward that side first.

Tzipi rests her empty food cup on her knee.

"Over here."

The guinea pig noses a corner of the lining near her friend. It stays there.

Her friend points to the little tunnel in the pen.

Tzipi watches the guinea pig reach it. Its nose disappears inside. Then its whole body follows.

The food cup is still empty on Tzipi's knee.

Her friend leans toward the pen.

Tzipi puts the cup beside her chair and leans forward, too.

At the tunnel's other end, the guinea pig appears. It walks along the edge between both chairs.

Tzipi leaves her chair where it is. Beside her friend, she watches the guinea pig's feet cross the fresh paper.
