The Space Beside His Elbow
Ages 9-12
Dov and another boy stand behind the indoor tossing line. A cardboard hoop lies flat on the floor ahead of them.
Rebbi hands each boy a soft ball of crumpled paper.
The other boy stands close to Dov's right side. Dov tucks his right elbow against his ribs and waits.
Rebbi moves the other boy to a second line, farther away.
Dov tosses his paper ball. It drops halfway to the hoop.
He retrieves it. He presses the loose paper tighter.
Back behind the line, he raises the ball. His elbow presses into his side again. The paper drops near the first spot.
Dov picks it up.
He looks to his right. The other boy is at the second line.
Dov lifts his right arm away from his ribs. Cool air reaches the place his elbow covered.
He tosses the ball.
It drops into the hoop and lies on the cardboard.
