The Ring on the Blank

Ages 12-15

Yesterday's circles lie beside Tirtzah's new sheet.

Each has a number underneath. Faint pencil lines surround the dark edges. At the center of the fourth circle, a smudged hole shows through the paper.

Sorala puts a plain cardboard ring beside the new sheet.

"Trace around this."

Tirtzah pushes it across the table.

She lays her ruler on the blank and measures the width of another circle.

Sorala takes the ring. On her own page, she runs her pencil around its outside edge.

She sets it between the two sheets and begins coloring her circle.

Tirtzah's ruler stays across the blank. There is one small pencil mark beside it.

She moves the ruler onto yesterday's fourth circle.

Tirtzah picks up the ring and lays it on the new sheet.

The blank shows through its center. Yesterday's circles lie beside her.
