The Rabbit Feet
Ages 6-9
Dasi lays two paper paw cards on the floor.
Both have round toes. Both are for cats.
She puts on her striped socks and brings the matching pair to her little sister.
Her sister keeps her plain gray socks on.
"I'm a rabbit."
Dasi holds the striped pair.
"We were two cats."
Her sister crouches beside the game blanket. She bends a scrap of paper into long ears.
Dasi puts the striped socks on a chair.
On the floor, the two cat paw cards point toward the blanket.
Dasi turns one facedown.
Her sister looks at the other.
"I need rabbit feet."
Dasi holds out the plain side of the unused card. Her sister draws two long feet on it.
Dasi places her own round paw card beside the blanket.
"The cat lives here."
Her sister puts the long feet at its other end.
"The rabbit visits."
Dasi crawls onto the blanket. Her sister hops to its edge.
The cat's round card stays at one end. At the other, two long rabbit feet point into the same blanket house.
