The Notebook in Her Lap

Ages 12-15

Sorala folds a roof for her paper house. Its two sides stand above the walls.

Temi puts her notebook on the house while she reaches for a pencil. The roof flattens beneath it, with a crease down one side.

Sorala lifts the edge of the roof.

"I'm the worst at everything," Temi says.

Sorala takes her hand off the paper.

"Not everything."

"I can't even..."

Temi's fingers close around the notebook.

She lifts it off the house and lays it in her lap.

"I put this on your roof."

Temi keeps both hands on the notebook in her lap.

The crease remains down one side of the roof. Sorala bends its middle fold and sets it back on the walls.
