The Note She Does Not Hum

Ages 6-9

Fruma hums the tune she knows. At the end, its last note goes up.

Beside her, Tzivia sings a different short tune.

"How does yours end?" Fruma asks.

Tzivia begins again.

Fruma hums softly while she listens. Her own last note rises over Tzivia's voice.

"Louder," Fruma says.

Tzivia sings the last few notes again.

Fruma hums her tune from the beginning. She reaches the rising note just as Tzivia finishes.

"I can't hear the end."

Tzivia stops singing.

Fruma starts humming once more.

She stops before her last note.

"The end again?"

Tzivia sings it. The last note goes down.

Fruma keeps her mouth closed until Tzivia stops.

Tzivia sings the short tune once more.

Fruma listens through the last note, with her own tune unfinished.
