The Neighboring Space

Ages 6-9

Ruvi holds a puzzle piece with a red stripe and one straight edge.

Two empty spaces sit side by side in the puzzle's bottom row.

He puts the piece over the first space and presses.

Its corner stays above the others.

He lifts it and puts it over the same space. He presses again.

The corner stays up.

He lifts it once more, sets it in the space and presses.

Ruvi puts the piece beside the puzzle.

He goes to the kitchen and takes a short drink of water.

He brings his cup back and sets it beyond the puzzle's corner.

Ruvi picks up a yellow piece. He lays it above the first space, then puts it back beside the others.

He picks up the red-striped piece and lays it over the neighboring space.

He lets go.

The fitted piece lies flat in the puzzle. Beyond the corner, the water cup stands on the table.
