The Hat's Crown
Ages 6-9
Gutty wins the pretend crown for the silliest animal drawing.
Her elephant has six feet. Its trunk points at its own tail.
Gutty puts the crown on her head.
Her friend brings over a second drawing. Its tiny giraffe stands beneath an enormous hat.
Gutty laughs so hard the crown slips over one ear.
Her friend reaches to straighten it.
Gutty takes it off first.
She puts it on the giraffe drawing.
"That hat needs another hat."
The crown covers half the giraffe's enormous hat. Her friend moves the drawing closer to Gutty's elephant.
Gutty adds a seventh foot to her own picture. Her friend puts a little shoe at the end of the giraffe's long neck.
Between the drawings, the crown stays on the paper hat. Gutty's own head is bare above the seven-footed elephant.
