The Folded Tail
Ages 6-9
Nacha holds the end of a ribbon while her friend makes a loop.
They are putting ribbon tails on two paper kites.
Nacha's tail is long. Her friend's is short.
"Make yours like mine," Nacha says.
Her friend keeps the short ribbon against her kite.
"It bumps the ground if it's long."
Nacha lifts her own kite high. Its tail hangs well above the floor.
Her friend's kite rests against a low chair back.
Nacha lowers hers to the same height.
The long tail reaches the floor and folds beneath itself.
Nacha picks it up. She holds the loose end against her kite, then folds one loop into the middle.
Her friend fastens the loop with a small paper ring.
Nacha puts both kites against the low chair backs.
One tail is short. The other has a folded loop.
