The Door on the Paper House
Ages 6-9
Kochava makes two paper houses. Each has a blue door and a porch folded flat against the wall.
She hands one to Nurit.
"This one's for you."
Nurit opens the porch. She lays a yellow paper square over the blue door.
On the yellow square she has drawn a tiny doorknob.
Kochava takes the square off.
"The door's already there."
She presses the porch flat again.
Kochava keeps her finger on the porch. Beside it lies the yellow square.
"I was making it open," Nurit says.
Kochava lifts her finger.
She slides the yellow square back to Nurit.
Nurit folds one edge of it. She tucks that edge into the fold beside the porch.
The yellow door swings open. It covers the blue door when it closes.
Kochava reaches for her own house.
She runs her thumb along its flat porch while Nurit opens the yellow door again.
