The Borrowed Hour
Ages 12-15
Hindy puts her piece of the poster on the table before Bracha arrives.
The lettering is finished. The long paper strip beneath it is not attached yet.
The poster strips still lie separate after yesterday's session.
At school this morning, Bracha points to the unfinished poster.
"I have to go at four today."
During break, Hindy finishes her own lettering. She leaves the little border decorations for later.
Now the poster sections lie ready on the table.
Bracha puts down her bag.
"Which letters are we doing?"
Hindy points to the finished row, then to the long seam between the two strips.
"This part."
Bracha holds one end flat. Hindy holds the other. They slide the edges together without covering any letters.
Hindy presses a short piece of tape beneath the seam.
Bracha keeps the strip level while Hindy moves to the other end. One corner rises. They lower it together and add the last piece of tape.
The poster lies flat.
On the wall, the clock shows ten minutes before four.
Bracha reaches for the little box of border decorations.
"We could start these."
Hindy looks at the ready poster, then at the loose decorations.
They lift the poster to the wall and fasten its corners.
Bracha steps back. Hindy moves one corner a little higher until the row of letters is level.
